Today is a very spooky day – October 31st is Halloween! Over time, Halloween has grown from an ancient celebration to a worldwide event, giving people from all around the world the chance to dress up in fun costumes, celebrate with their friends and go trick-or-treating for sweet treats. Many people host Halloween parties these days, even in countries like Australia where the holiday isn’t as celebrated as it is in other places, such as the United States of America.

If you’ve been invited to a Halloween party and need a costume, there are plenty of places you can get ideas from:

1.    BOOKS

Some people choose to go with the spooky classics, like ghosts, witches, or monsters, but a great place to source costume inspiration from, however, is between the pages of your favourite books! Some book characters that can be brought to life through a great costume can include Harry Potter, Where’s Wally, or Cat in the Hat to name a few. There are also plenty of fairy-tale characters that make awesome Halloween costumes, such as Cinderella, the Three Little Pigs, or Little Red Riding Hood!

2.    MOVIES

If you prefer watching movies than reading books then you’re still in luck, as there are plenty of awesome movies you can get costume inspiration from. Maybe you’d like to be Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz, or Sandy from Grease? What about Cruella de Ville from 101 Dalmatians, or Shrek? No matter what your taste in movies, there’s no doubt you’ll be able to find the perfect Halloween costume!

3.    TIME

Perhaps this year, you’d like to step back in time with your Halloween costume. A 1920’s flapper costume complete with long gloves, feathers and plenty of sequins would no doubt turn heads at the party! If the 20’s weren’t your thing, maybe you’d like to try out the wild and wacky colours of a 70’s costume, full of flowers and flares? Finally, we can’t forget the 50’s, with their poodle skirts!

If you and your love are heading to the party together, why not try a couple’s costume? The options are endless, and cover pretty much anything and everything, from Batman & Robin, to Salt & Pepper! Other options include Prisoner & Guard, Fred & Wilma Flintstone, or Raggedy Ann & Andy!

When it comes to a Halloween party, choosing your costume is hands down the best part. Well, second only to entering the party and showing off the costume itself to all your friends! At HappyUnwrappy, we believe that Halloween shouldn’t be the only time the costumes come out to play, and that we all should include fun costumes to all kinds of special occasions! What is the best costume you’ve ever worn to a Halloween or other costume party?
